Was Scorponok really as loyal as he seemed? Sure he never actively made a move to betray Megatron. But there is one scene in the episode Gorilla Warfare, where he doesn't seem so loyal.

When Megatron confronts Scorponok in the lab, Megatron turns his back on Scorponok to pick up the anti-virus. When he does this Scorponok lifts his claws and starts to clamp them as if he was about to shoot but then stopped when the sound caught MEgatron's attention.

Am I reading too much into that scene or was Scorponok really thinking of shooting megatron, or infecting him with the virus?

To me, Scorponok is the blindly loyal. I can't really imagine him him even thinking about betraying Megs. Also Scorponok is known to be kind of twitchy, becuase he did have a tendenency to click and clamp his claws a lot throught out the show. So maybe it was a nervous twitch, but when kid I thought he was trying to make some kind of rude guester at Megs. But even thought Scorponok is loyal, maybe he does gets a little annoyed with Megs sometimes. Who knows really?

I just see it as him being angry, I mean if a human gets angry, they might clench their hands, or like I do, I crack my knuckles a bit (calms me down) that might be what he's doing there

Scorponok is such a odd character. His IQ seems to fluctuate between episodes. But yeah, I think he is a lot like Inferno in the fact they are both blindly loyal to Megatron.

Ok I just watched it and really I don't think it's a threatening movement. Like SkyxD8 pointed out I think it's just a nervous habit.

But he does seem kind of stiff and tense in his movements. I donno.

Blame the writers for this one. His IQ fluctuated with whoever was writing the episode. The writers could never decide whether he was a dumbbell or a secret genius.

I just watched that Episode and I agree with Tor i think it is also a nervous twitch.

oh, I know he has the nervous twitch but the clamps when he is doing his twitching is different from his clamps when he is about to shoot and the clamps in that scene were different from his usual twitching. Also, the fact that it actually attracted Megatrons attention and he stopped as soon as megatron turned around.

I just re-watched it too, and it really does look more like a thoughtful twitch with the odd "move out of the way of the big robot" dodge-and-arm-wave-for-balance. It could have been a little of "mine! My invention!!" in there too.

Anywho, I think Scorponok is just a brainwashed fellow who believes Megatron is somewhat like the deliver of the Preds. I imagine that the only time Scorponok may have even felt anything *close* to disloyalty is when Inferno bursted in. He may have felt replaced because Inferno automatically became like the new second.

I don't think Scorpinok is smart enough to actually disobey his boss.
I define Scorpinok as a "Thug with a brain" and blindly loyal.

I Especially think he's kinda dunce in the episode "Chain of Command" When Megatron returns from his probe ordeal.

Scropinok states and I quote: "Megatron back! Megatron back!" What happened to IS?!

Anyway this is just my opinion.

Who knows? I've actually heard it debated that Scorpinok was originally Maximal (explaining his loyalty and affection for Megatron) and somehow ended up Pred. On one or two episodes--whatever that one is where Cheetor opens a portal between the bases in season one--Scorpinok fires a missile, and it has a Maximal insignia on it.

Isn't that actually more of the way some hit men would write the names of their intended victims on their bullets?

My own take: I agree with Tor that it's likely the only time Scorponok feels any form of disloyalty is when Inferno joins. But even then, I think it was more of defiance and lots of jealousy as well as feeling quite under-appreciated.

Concerning Scorponok's loyalty and his intelligence, he really does seem more like a thug with a brain than anything. But using the above "hit men" thing, would it be too much to say it's possible that Scorponok was a calculated killer back on Cybertron? Maybe even an assassin?

As for the fluctuating IQ...erm, I'm going with the writers thing.

But isn't it kind of suspicious why is he so loyal; I mean either it's like the maximals that their earn their lidership by respect or he's just way to afraid to respond or do anything (Like starscream with the original Megatron).
Besides he's not presisly the best tech head, in a episode Dinobo says that Scorponok inventions always fail.

Well, about the Maximal insignia on Scorponok's missiles, I always heard that was an animation error.
