Sculptures...

Unread post by Yachi »

...that sadly, aren't BW related. Yet.

The followin' link will take you to a video displaying my three most recent sculptures, all three of which are characters. Two of them are my original characters, and one is not.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aKLCVe_RKnk

The first one is Maximillian, an Orm-tur. Character of mine from the novel I'm writing. The second one is Pilot, from Farscape, my favorite character in the series. Usually, when I get into a TV series, I end up sculpting my fave character. Which leads me to request some ideas.

Which Beast Wars character(s) should I sculpt? I'm thinkin' of either doin' two separate ones or two together--a sort of scene. One of the characters is definitely gonna be Rattrap, but how 'bout the other? Which one would ya like to see in 3D the most?

I go tomorrow to buy s'more Sculpey. I start makin' the Beast Wars characters in a day or two, so if you wanna get your vote in, do quickly. Optimus, Cheetor, Dinobot, Rhinox, Airazor, Tigatron, or Silverbolt? Any ideas of a scene to make with the sculpey? (keep in mind that it's gotta be able to be supported by nothin' but wire, so nothin' to fancy, please)

Anyway. Hope you like the video.

Hey, that's really cool, Yachi! Your video was a fun and creative way of showcasing your art. Thanks for sharing. :)

Being a Rattrap fan, I'm all for a sculpture of Da Rat, but if you're also looking to do another Beast Warrior, I suggest Silverbolt. Looking at that character you did with wings, I'd say you could do a good job on making him look accurate and impressive. And you'd make a lotta Silverbolt fans happy. :D

wooooaaaaa....nice attenton to detail there! i love the second one! im thinking you should have gone into art...or even graphic design. they do that kind of thing for cgi movies. i think the second one would look soooo cool in the movie. the first one seems a lot like frick from merlin. you know, the kindly but on-the-wrong-side mentor/teacher. the third guy should marry my sister!

RATTAP!!!!! but maybe ssn 1 rattrap...all the new components of TM RT may b tricky to begin with. besides, that would make it chronologically correct!...sorry...ONLY JUST COME BACK FROM SCHOOOL! 3 HOURS OVERTIME! ive been in the drama dept for over 5hours working on 'mnemonic'!

but those are really cool. the fact that your writing an actual novel is cool enough to make me say cooooooool.....nice one!

Thanks! Glad you two like them....Yeah...my fingers are itchin' to make more....
i think the second one would look soooo cool in the movie
And it does! :D The second one is from a sci-fi show called Farscape. Pilot's a giant, very life-like puppet.*shrugs* The Jim Henson company did the puppets for that show. Same peeps who did the Muppets, Babe, Neverending Story, the Ninja Turtles movies...ahhh...and, quite coincidentally, they did animatronics for the movie Merlin, too!

Anyway. I've never seen Merlin before, but I've heard of it. My character looks like someone else? Figures that'd happen to me. Oh, well. He looks more like Julian Richings to me. :D

As for the sculpture...
I suggest Silverbolt. Looking at that character you did with wings, I'd say you could do a good job on making him look accurate and impressive.
Oh, boy...those wings made me cry somethin' fierce. Thanks, though. I'm definitely gonna make Rattrap then, and you're right, pre-TM Rattrap would be easier. Plus, I liked his original form better. TM kinda took the fun out of him bein' a rat and all.

Personally, reading both your responses gave me a great idea for a scene. Rattrap, hovering over some Pred-head with his pistol drawn. (also inspired by The Trigger eppy number 2) Or it could be another Maximal (ye just don't mess with da rat...hehe). Silverbolt would be a bit harder to do, since his wings would get in the way. And....I....don't know if I want to go through the horror again of trying to get those wings to stay glued on, for pete's sake! That's the only thing that makes sculpting Silverbolt that unappealing, though I like his character enough to try.....I need precious brainstorming juice....

I'm thinkin' Cheetor, Dinobot, Inferno or even Waspy for the second character. Somebody who really ticks him off any any given time. Makin' Waspy's 'Wazzzpinator gets blown up again!' expression would be fun. But Cheetor's so loved...I'd make Optimus, but I can't think of a reason Rattrap would want to stand over his fearless leader with a gun pointed in his face. Inferno would be chronologically incorrect, since RT's supossed to have his TM body by the time Inferno shows up....

....I'm in over my head here, but I was also thinkin'. Using tinfoil and a very small light (they sell 'em at Michaels) I might even get the red glowy eyes effect thing with both the characters. If that doesn't work, I can always use paint. But that's not very adventurous, is it?

Those are awesome, Yachi! And here I almost thought I was the only one who thought of the idea of sculpting BW. XD I wouldn't really know where to start, though. I wasn't very good with clay in art class back in middle school but I wouldd try making BW characters if I had the time and knowledge. LoL Darn it. You could make some really awesome Tfs sculptures!

DO IT! DO IT! DO IT! :D

Silverbolt or Rattrap, either way, it's all good! You got quite a bit of talent!

Man I suggest that if you're trying out making this kind of sculpted "scenes" and you want to put Rattrap, the other guy has to be definitely Dinobot. They had tons of moments together. I also think their most emotional yet tragical meeting was at the end of the episode code of hero when Dinobot dies. You could make an inscription with his last message, the one about telling the truth about dinobot's story. Great job with the video and the sculptures man, how did you learned anyway?
By the way one of your sculptures reminded me of that alien that showed up in the movie Independence Day. The one that goes WTF? when they download the virus to the main ship.

Ah...yes. Absolutely. Thank you. That would make the point in makin' the sculpture mean a lot more...originally, I was just gonna to put Waspinator there since it's so traditional 'pick on Waspy' sort of thing, but now I most definitely am goin' with this idea. Dunno if I should go with Dinobot's final scene in Code, or if I should just stick to my first idea. I think I'd start cryin' if I tried to sculpt Code of Hero. But the inscription goes, definitely.

The theme now is...what would be the first thing Rattrap would do if he ever got to say somethin' to Dinobot? Would he just be glad that he's back and the hardship's over? Or would he get angry? The scene just got a lot more powerful...

Ahaha...the WTF alien. I love that movie. Actually, when I first saw Pilot, I thought the exact same thing. Wonder where the Jim Henson company got their idea from. Thanks! How did I learn?....um...well, I just sort of did...I think. Like most other things, I just taught myself. I usually draw, but sculptin' to me is a lot more enjoyable, despite it bein' just a bit of an expensive hobby. Plus, five university level high school art courses might've had somethin' to do with teachin' me anatomy.

The rest is is just my imagination. I like makin' things right off the top of my head, even if they don't turn out that great. :)

Whoa....okay, then. I'm a'makin' I'm a 'makin'... *looks frightened by Jagna's outburst*

Yeah...now I'm obsessed. I just bought all the materials, and GEEZ was that more money than I wanted to spend. But I got this huge box of polymer clay for almost half price, so I can make many, many, many sculptures without havin' to go back and buy more clay. Woo! And even with my nifty digital camera, I can do my first online sculptin' tutorial for my website and/or Elfwood. Woo!....again. I love Beast Wars. It's changed my art world. :)

And here are the unfairly priced items I had to travel across the city to buy today.

Image

This is now an official 'project' of mine, meanin' this thread will be receiving visual updates as I go, whether or not you try to stop me. Muahahaha....

Hi there.. It's me again. I'm pleased to know that you liked my suggestion. Maybe for the scene you can make this:

Image

You know, I considered that maybe the las scene from Code of Hero might be tons of work. So I searched for a pic that had the resemblance to a bonding moment between these two characters. I think this whole Thumbs up idea might be worth it. You can even name it something like "give me the finger" or "giving the finger". Hahahaha I know sometimes I can't resist. But then again is only a suggestion. I will be looking forward to find any pic of your work on this post.

Hey, thanks! I need reference pictures like there's no tomorrow. And I like the 'thumbs up' idea. :) Dunno where I'm going with the scene yet, but I'm sure I'll figure it out.

....this is sort of an update. I've realized that sculptin' the original Rattrap is...very, very hard. No problems with the body, but it's hard to carve the head properly. It's the eyes...I keep squishin' them. It would help if the entire building wasn't like...1000 degrees. My clay keep meltin' in my hands...and I can't sculpt in the freezin' cold basement all the time. Sheesh...I might have to go with Transmetal Rattrap after all. Start from scrap. Grrr...

Anyway.

Nope. I stuck with original RT after all. This is an update. For the sake of...well, updatin'. This thing's gonna be much bigger than I thought...good thing I bought all that extra clay.

ImageImage
That Dr. Pepper bottle's there to show proportion...it'll probably be the same height of the bottle when I'm done it...

It definitely needs more work...jaw's a little crooked (must've hit it with my thumb, I now realize) and the top of his head seems a bit too narrow...I just started the torso...gotta loooong way to go. Back to work...Does anyone see anything a little bit 'off' about it? Don't be afraid to be honest...there's something weird about it that I can't figure out....
